Miansha/DerDUDE:
How did you come up with your band name? Does it have a background??
Wisehead:
Our band name is Wisehead. Our band goal is to make people happy. Our music
sounds very energetic and positive and we asked ourselves, why should we play
sad music, if we can make ourselves and the crowd happy? So, one of us came
up with: 'Why Sad?' That band name would be to obvious, so we tried to cover
it up in one word that still sounds like our idea about the music we play. So
it became Wisehead!
Miansha/DerDUDE:
How would you specify your style as a ska band?
Wisehead:
Cocktail Ska: energetic up-tempo ska, combined
with a variety of different styles.
Miansha/DerDUDE:
Which song would you suggest someone to listen to in order to get to know your
music best?
Wisehead:
Cruel Intentions
Miansha/DerDUDE:
Which ska band/personality influenced you the most?
Wisehead:
This is a difficult question, 'cause everyone in Wisehead has other influences.
The Slackers, Skatalites, Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra, Wisehead, Save Ferris
Miansha/DerDUDE:
Apart from ska, what music style influenced you the most?
Wisehead:
Jazz
Miansha/DerDUDE:
What message are you trying to get across to people with your music?
Wisehead:
Relax, forget all your problems for a while, enjoy our music and skank around!
Miansha/DerDUDE:
Does ska have a political meaning for you, and if so what is it?
Wisehead:
Our ska doesn't. We decided to not have a political meaning in our music.
Miansha/DerDUDE:
What were the best and worst venues you've played?
Wisehead:
Best: Paradiso, Amsterdam
Worst: Café Lot, Nunhem
Miansha/DerDUDE:
How would you describe your audience?
Wisehead:
Mostly a lot of real ska people who like to skank.
Miansha/DerDUDE:
Which song do you usually play as an encore?
Wisehead:
Cruel Intentions
Miansha/DerDUDE:
Have you got any weird touring experiences worth a mention?
Wisehead:
In May 2005 we did a tour in Germany and Poland. That was the weirdest thing
we ever did. We drove 3.202km for 3 shows in 3 days, we almost killed our support-act
in traffic (that was really close), one of the venues broke our 'baddest-food-record'
and we slept in a house in the Polish woods that belongs to people we didn't
know at all. But it was worth it!
Miansha/DerDUDE:
Which band would you most like to play with?
Wisehead:
Slackers
There will always be ska. That's the most important thing.
When we're older, we're going to do our best to spread the word of ska to our
kids. So watch out for Wisehead Jr. in the future!
Miansha/DerDUDE:
Why do you think it is that most young bands either play traditional ska or
ska-punk?
Wisehead:
They aren't experienced enough to combine it or give it their own twist.
Miansha/DerDUDE:
Why do you think it's so difficult for ska to establish itself? Do you think
ska is doomed to continue to play a minor role in the music scene?
Wisehead:
We don't mind that the music charts aren't full of ska and we also don't mind
that big record companies keep their hands of ska. This keeps the music real.
Ska is real music for real people!
Miansha/DerDUDE:
Which band or ska CD do you recommend (apart from your own) to the people out
there?
Wisehead:
Mark Foggo and the Skasters
Miansha/DerDUDE:
Who, in your eyes is the "Godfather of Ska"?
Wisehead:
Laurel Aitken
Miansha/DerDUDE:
Which ska site do you particularly recommend? What are your favourites?
Wisehead:
www.skapeople.nl
Miansha/DerDUDE:
What's going to be coming up in terms of gigs or any other projects? Is there
a new CD coming out?
Wisehead:
We're planning to make a new CD and play a lot of gigs. We're also planning
a new tour through a part of Europe. So keep visiting our website for more info!
Miansha/DerDUDE:
When is it going to be out and what should we be expecting?
Wisehead:
We don't know when it will be released, but it's
going to be FAT!
Miansha/DerDUDE:
A bit of space for your own comments and anything else you want to add!!!...
Wisehead:
Check out www.wisehead.nl for more
info!
Miansha/DerDUDE:
Thanks for the interesting interview!
