Questions directly relating to you:

DerDUDE:
How did you come up with your band name? Does it have a background??

Los Calzones:
The name of the band came out of a social situation our country was going through, one of the many economic crisis we suffered and it was like laughing of ourselves, seeing our torn pants.

DerDUDE:
How would you specify your style as a ska band?

Los Calzones:
I think it's mixture of all the ska we've heard since our schoolyears, Jamaican ska, passing by the english 2tone till the ska of these days, and obviously all the music, ska or not that you listen to and that helps you to learn.

DerDUDE:
Which song would you suggest someone to listen to in order to get to know your music best?
Los Calzones:
I think that UN REY SKA would be a good song if you want to listen to an instrumental and MUGRE, because of the lyrics.

DerDUDE:
Which ska band/personality influenced you the most?

Los Calzones:
The band that influenced us the most in our beginnings was Bad Manners.

DerDUDE:
Apart from ska, what music style influenced you the most?

Los Calzones:
We try not to enclose ourselves and listen only to ska, we live music as a whole and not as a question of race or countries, as far as it comes out from the heart its style is just a way of expressing it. We listen to Pink Floyd, Santana, Rage Against The Machine, Mano Negra, a bit of everything in fact.

DerDUDE:
What message are you trying to get across to people with your music?

Los Calzones:
The message always depends on what we feel at the moment, in general the lyrics of our songs talk about what happens to ordinary people in our country and the eternal conflict between what people think and what their politicians' thoughts.

DerDUDE:
Does ska have a political meaning for you, and if so what is it?

Los Calzones:
As I have just told you, politicians do not generally think of their people and that is what we try to express.

Concerts:

DerDUDE:
What were the best and worst venues you've played?

Los Calzones:
We don't have a best or a worst venue, we always take something good out of everything, good or bad. When we started playing we slept in a garage, on the floor and we basketed in the streets and had fun just as much as we did when we played in arenas or when we recorded with Fatty from Bad Manners in L.A.

DerDUDE:
How would you describe your audience?

Los Calzones:
In general, in Latin America we have a mixed audience, there are rude boys, punks and people wearing AC DC t-shirts. I think it's something possitive to have a mixed audience with no problems.

DerDUDE:
Which song do you usually play as an encore?

Los Calzones:
A song from a punk band from our country called UNO, DOS, ULTRAVIOLENTO.

DerDUDE:
Have you got any weird touring experiences worth a mention?

Los Calzones:
We've been playin together for 14 years so we have a lot, but the one I remember the most was once that we had to play in the north of Chile and all our instruments and equipment were sent to the south, to Santiago, so we had to play with the things somebody lent us.

DerDUDE:
Which band would you most like to play with?

Los Calzones:
Luckily we have already done it, with Bad Manners, and our next choice would be Madness or The Specials.

DerDUDE:
I've always been interested to know how you deal with Nazi-Skins at your gigs.

Los Calzones:
Luckily there are not so many in Argentina, but in fact we don't get on with nazis and with Sharp people everything's ok.

DerDUDE:
There's a lot of talk about 3 ska waves. How far can you identify yourselves with those? What do you think is going to come after the 3rd wave? What's the future of ska?

Los Calzones:
As I told you before, I think we get something from all the ska we listen to, I believe after this third wave the people who listen to ska will go on doing it no matter which name it's given, that's why I see a clear future.

DerDUDE:
Why do you think it is that most young bands either play traditional ska or ska-punk?

Los Calzones:
I think it's the first thing you discover when you start listening to this kind of music, but as time goes by you realize that ska is not only that and you start getting your own style, but I insist, it's a matter of time.

DerDUDE:
Why do you think it's so difficult for ska to establish itself? Do you think ska is doomed to continue to play a minor role in the music scene?

Los Calzones:
We have been trying to put turn that the other way round since our beginnings, I believe it's a question of being perseverent, luckily we are achieving it in Argentina, just as in Latin America, since our shows are for a great amount of people. I don't think it's a minor role in the music scene because many world well known musiciand recognize their ska influence as it is the case of Metallica.

General:

DerDUDE:
Which band or ska CD do you recommend (apart from your own) to the people out there?

Los Calzones:
I'd tell you to listen to many things, as much as you can. It's very difficult to choose one because you wouldn't discover many things, personally I like RETURN OF THE UGLY and BAD MANNERS.

DerDUDE:
Who, in your eyes is the "Godfather of Ska"?

Los Calzones:
I think it's Bob Marley in his first times or Fatty or all the Skatelites together.

DerDUDE:
Which ska site do you particularly recommend? What are your favourites?

Los Calzones:
Obviamente www.loscalzones.com o www.skatalites.com

DerDUDE:
What's going to be coming up in terms of gigs or any other projects? Is there a new CD coming out?

Los Calzones:
Nowadays we are on a charity tour around our country, where we play in the open air for about 10000 people every show, and the ticket is not money but food to help the poor people. The new cd will be recorded in April 2003.

DerDUDE:
When is it going to be out and what should we be expecting?

Los Calzones:
I suppose a month after being recorded and what you can wait for is A LOT OF SKA. At the moment we are rehearsing and I know you're going to be surprised, we are even surprised ourselves!

DerDUDE:
A bit of space for your own comments and anything else you want to add!!!...
Los Calzones:
Well, I hope all the ska fans around the world go on being loyal to this music just as they have been so far, because it's not a fad that you listen to today and forget tomorrow, it's a way of living, of thinking and above all, a feeling.

The best to you all.

Un abrazo grande a todos
