Date of interview: 1/1/07
DerDUDE:
How did you come up with your band name? Does it have a background??
Cuban B:
We all loved the movie "Half Baked"- whrere there is a scene when
Scarface is saying: "Yo i'm cuban, B!", and then Samson says: "Yes,
Cuban B!". for some reason we all found that funny.
DerDUDE:
How would you specify your style as a ska band?
Cuban B:
We are doing a 3th wave ska, with a lot of punk,
reggea and nu metal influences.
DerDUDE:
Which song would you suggest someone to listen to in order to get to know your
music best?
Cuban B:
I'd say here some reel big fish, them some 311, then Green day, and finally
Backstreet boys to get our drift.
DerDUDE:
Which ska band/personality influenced you the most?
Cuban B:
Reel big fish
DerDUDE:
Apart from ska, what music style influenced you the most?
Cuban B:
reggea , nu metal, swing, hip hop, punk rock
DerDUDE:
What message are you trying to get across to people with your music?
Cuban B:
Have fun, be happy, don't give a shit and smoke some...
DerDUDE:
Does ska have a political meaning for you, and if so what is it?
Cuban B:
we don't do politics in Cuban B
DerDUDE:
What were the best and worst venues you've played?
Cuban B:
The best: 600 people came to our show at a club in south
Tel-Aviv. the crowd was amazing and we all had a blast! during one of our dance
rutins (yes we dance), our sax player jet fell of the stage on some chairs!.
Our worst show: when about 40 people came, and they were all standing and looking
at us with a hatfull look!
DerDUDE:
How would you describe your audience?
Cuban B:
hot and sexy, ska-punk kids
DerDUDE:
Which song do you usually play as an encore?
Cuban B:
Do like, my favorite song
DerDUDE:
Have you got any weird touring experiences worth a mention?
Cuban B:
on the way back from a show in the north, our singer needed to pie, so we stopped
in the middle of nowhere. a jackel started to run towards her, and she run back
screaming to the van!
DerDUDE:
Which band would you most like to play with?
Cuban B:
Hanson
DerDUDE:
I've always been interested to know how you deal with Nazi-Skins at your gigs.
Cuban B:
Well we are from Israel. I don't think Nazis will last long here......
DerDUDE:
There's a lot of talk about 3 ska waves. How far can you identify yourselves
with those? What do you think is going to come after the 3rd wave? What's the
future of ska?
Cuban B:
I think we are more related to the 3rd wave... and like any other music, it
will integrate with all the other styles till a new kind of music will appear.
DerDUDE:
Why do you think it is that most young bands either play traditional ska or
ska-punk?
Cuban B:
I think most of the bands prefer ska-punk. It's younger, more up-to-date
DerDUDE:
What's going to be coming up in terms of gigs or any other projects? Is there
a new CD coming out?
Cuban B:
Our debu CD is coming out in a few months, and a big summer tour abroad is going
to take place.
DerDUDE:
When is it going to be out and what should we be expecting?
Cuban B:
Ska ska ska, Israeli ska!
DerDUDE:
A bit of space for your own comments and anything else you want to add!!!...
Cuban B:
thanks a lot.. check us out and tell us what you think!
DerDUDE:
Thanks for the interesting interview! Skankin' greetings to Israel!
